Inaugural e-Edition set to upload by 5 p.m. Friday
Lord willing, The Inaugural e-Edition of the West Brazos Herald will be available on this site by 5 p.m. tomorrow.
And, as our busy team of five volunteers adds the finishing touches to that publication, we want to clear up some potential confusion.
Tomorrow’s e-Edition is but a beginning. Dear reader, please know we are planning to be primarily a weekly PRINT publication soon.
The whole time we have been planning and producing this e-Edition, we have also been working on our business plan with the Small Business Development Center at Brazosport College. And that plan (which, Lord willing, we’ll have finalized late next week, ready to show to the several local philanthropists who have encouraged this venture with their potential interest in supporting it) is very clear:
The West Brazos Herald is going to be a weekly PRINTED newspaper, distributed free to driveways and local stores, offices and restaurants throughout Brazoria, Damon, Jones Creek, Sweeny, West Columbia and more. You know, just like our beloved Brazoria County did for decades.
But the five of us God has called to start this blessed venture simply don’t have — even between us — the $55,000 our plan says we need to start a print publication.
Hence, the e-Edition.
To get the weekly print newspapers going, we are going to need your financial support, dear reader.
But we also realize you want to know a lot more about what we’re asking you to support. We know you’re waiting to see what we’re really all about, what we really mean when we say the Herald will be a “Bible-Centered” local newspaper.
We pray the e-Edition will give you that very insight into the heart of our operation.
Shortly after the e-Edition “hits the streets” we plan to start our Capital Fundraising campaign. If you like what you see in the e-Edition, we pray you’ll be moved to get involved in that.
We’ll be posting more about the campaign just as soon as we’ve finalized a few more details regarding our status as a nonprofit corporation. But, in the meantime, any contribution would be a blessing and encouragement — especially in the middle of our final few “crunch time” hours before the e-Edition goes live.
Lord willing, we’ll see you Saturday! (That’s when the West Brazos Herald crew — and a lot of family and friends — are planning to be out around the area handing out cards announcing the e-Edition’s arrival. You know, because not everybody in the area is constantly tuned to Facebook. If you’d like to be on the Card Distribution Team, just click the contact link and let us know. We’ve got a lot of cards to hand out. )
We’d be honored if you kept this blessed venture in your prayer!
(Okay, as a news organization, we believe in complete openness and accountability. So here are those aforementioned details about our nonprofit status: Herald Media, as of Nov. 29, is an official Texas nonprofit corporation, but any donations you may see fit to make in the next few days are still set to go to the sole proprietorship bank account we’ve been using temporarily since Nov. 4. That’s only because our founding board of directors has not yet had a chance to get our corporate bank account set up. Lord willing, we’ll have that done by early next week. Then we’ll put our tax-exempt 501c3 application in the mail to the IRS one or two days later. And then we’ll begin the capital campaign in earnest. Important note: donations before the 501c3 is formally approved would not be tax deductible immediately, but, upon approval, would be tax deductible retroactive to Nov. 29.)
